HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a nationally recognised course that develops effective CPR skills. The 1.5-hour Regular class costs $45 and is ideal for new learners building a first aid foundation, while a 30-minute Express refresher and a 3-hour Full Length option are also available.
You’ll learn to recognise a cardiac arrest and perform effective CPR on adults, children and infants, including safe use of an AED. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends renewing your CPR certificate every 12 months.

CPR Training Delivery
- All students completing this course must have moderate English. All clients will need to complete a few scenarios at the beginning of the class to ensure effective communication.
- It is a requirement that CPR be demonstrated for a minimum of 2 minutes on the floor using a manikin.
- Practical exercises are completed in groups or pairs will involve placing participants in the recovery position and practicing CPR on manikins on the floor.
- In your practical component you will need to complete a theory test (all multiple choice questions) and practical exercises, you will be assessed by your trainer and have to be marked as competent to pass for you qualification.
- Pre-course theory must be completed prior to attending your class. Failure to complete theory may result in exclusion from the course and forfeiture of fees.
You will learn the following CPR techniques –
- Recognising and assessing emergency situation
- DRSABCD in accordance with ARC guidelines
- Placing casualty in recovery position
- CPR on adult, child and infant CPR manikins
- Administering defibrillation on Trainer AED machines
- Ensuring safety for self, bystanders and casualty
- Notifying emergency services and incident reports
- Reporting an incident inline with workplace policies.

Which Course Do I Need: HLTAID009 Express Refresher, HLTAID009 Regular, HLTAID011?
The HLTAID009 Express Refresher course is designed for individuals who already own an active certificate but are seeking to refresh their skills or the validity of their certificate.
For those who are seeking to earn their certificate and start learning about CPR, the HLTAID009 Regular course version is the ideal choice. As opposed to the assessment-only refresher course, the regular course is a 1.5 face-to-face training and assessment, with online theory taken before the class. There is also a “Full” class version available.
Finally comes the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course. This course is a comprehensive course that seeks to build a strong foundation for first aid skills and knowledge. The course covers the management of various illnesses and emergencies, CPR techniques, and AED usage just to name a few. HLTAID011 also has Express, Regular, and Full variants.
How Often Do I Need to Renew HLTAID009?
The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that HLTAID009 be renewed every 12 months.
Is It Possible to Do the Regular HLTAID009 Course Fully Online?
No. There is an online pre-theory that must be completed at least 24 hours before attending the 1.5-hour practical session.
Is this course suitable if I’ve never done CPR training before?
Yes — this Regular course is designed for first-time learners as well as anyone wanting full theory-and-practical training, unlike the Express Refresher, which is assessment-only for existing certificate holders.
What happens if I don’t pass?
Your trainer will work with you during the session to help you meet the assessment requirements. If you need more time, they’ll discuss options with you on the day.
What should I bring to class?
Bring photo ID and your USI (Unique Student Identifier). If you haven’t registered for a USI yet, you can do so for free before your course.
