High School Students - Year 9 to 12

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

3 hour course (plus online theory)

Students will receive the National Workplace qualification. We offer our our accredited first aid courses to high school students.

  • HLTAID003/HLTAID011 Provide first aid – 3hrs plus online theory (receive both qualifications until Oct 2021)
  • Pre-course theory can be completed throughout the school term prior to the training class

first aid for students

Primary School Students - Year 8

Basic First Aid - non-qualification

1-2 hour course (no theory)

We offer non-accredited tailored basic first aid courses to primary school and high school students

Basic First Aid for Primary School Students:

  • 30-60 minute group sessions for every year level, delivered at your school
  • Calling 000
  • Basic CPR
  • Bandaging
  • Burns
  • Class sets of worksheets offered for completion after the sessions

Safety Basics for Primary School Students (Optional Extra):

  • 30 min safety program following the basic first aid session
  • Pool safety
  • Stranger danger
  • Safety around the home
  • Class sets of worksheets offered for completion after the sessions

Fees

  • Basic First Aid – Non-qualification Course – from $500 for groups of up to 25 students
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid – Discount students rates from $60 per student – minimum 15 students per group (fees may differ if outside metro Melbourne and Sydney)

  • Students will receive a digital Statement of Attainment in HLTAID011 Provide first aid
Basic First Aid – This course is not an accredited course. Students will receive:
  • A digital Statement of Attendance (Certificate ONLY) in Basic First Aid
  • Your certificate will be emailed upon successful completion after 7pm on the next business day

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Content

  • awareness of potential need for stress-management techniques and available support following an emergency situation
  • duty of care requirements
  • respectful behaviour towards a casualty
  • own skills and limitations
  • consent
  • privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • importance of debriefing

considerations when providing first aid including:

  • airway obstruction due to body position
  • appropriate duration and cessation of CPR
  • appropriate use of an AED
  • chain of survival
  • standard precautions
  • how to conduct a visual and verbal assessment of the casualty

principles and procedures for first aid management of the following scenarios:

  • abdominal injuries
  • allergic reaction
  • anaphylaxis
  • basic care of a wound
  • bleeding control
  • burns
  • cardiac conditions, including chest pain
  • choking and airway obstruction
  • crush injuries
  • diabetes
  • dislocations
  • drowning
  • envenomation
  • environmental impact, including hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration and heat stroke
  • eye and ear injuries
  • fractures
  • febrile convulsions
  • head, neck and spinal injuries
  • minor skin injuries
  • needle stick injuries
  • poisoning and toxic substances
  • respiratory distress, including asthma
  • seizures, including epilepsy
  • shock
  • soft tissue injuries, including strains and, sprains
  • stroke
  • unconsciousness

basic anatomy and physiology relating to:

  • how to recognise a person is not breathing normally
  • chest
  • response/consciousness
  • upper airway and effect of positional change
  • considerations in provision of first aid for specified conditions

Course Duration

  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid – 3 hour practical class, plus 4-6hrs of online theory.  Allow 3.25 hours for the training session to include registration
  • Basic First Aid – 1-2hrs – there are no theory requirements for this course and no tests on the day

Course Requirements

There are no assessment requirements for this course, which is a non-qualification course.

This course is delivered in a test-free, assessment-free environment, teaching CPR & first aid basics.
