All students completing this course must have moderate English. Further information is provided in the Student Handbook.

Online Pre-Theory –

Theory must be completed at least 24hrs prior to attending your class. Failure to complete theory will result in your booking being cancelled and all monies forfeited. Trainers are provided the class list detailing theory completion results the day prior to class.

Learners will gain immediate access to the theory portal upon completion of their booking and payment, refer to your confirmation email for the link (please check junk mail folders or contact us if not received).

Practical Assessment –

Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry validated scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge.

Please let us know if you have any medical conditions or special needs that may prevent you from getting on the floor. It is a requirement that CPR be performed for at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Simulated assessment environments must simulate the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.

Assessment Resources must include –

  • Adult and infant resuscitation manikins in line with ARC Guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures.
  • AED training device
  • Workplace injury, trauma and/or illness record, or other appropriate workplace incident report form.

FAQ

HLTAID012 Childcare First Aid Express Refresher (1.25 hr) — common questions

Am I eligible for this Express Refresher?

It’s assessment-only and only suitable if you already hold a current HLTAID012 qualification and train annually. If not, book our Regular HLTAID012 course instead.

What certificate do I receive?

Your HLTAID012 certificate includes the outcomes of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 Provide CPR.

How long is the practical class?

Just 1.25 hours — the bulk of the content is completed online beforehand.

Is this suitable for early childhood educators?

Yes, this course is specifically for educators renewing their emergency first aid qualification in an education and care setting.

What Is the Difference Between HLTAID012 and HLTAID011?

HLTAID012 is a specialised childcare first aid course that includes all learning outcomes from HLTAID011 Provide First Aid plus additional skills relevant to children and infants. This includes paediatric CPR, childhood illness and injury response, asthma and anaphylaxis management, and emergency situations that occur in education and care settings.

Which First Aid Course Do I Need for Childcare?

If you work in a regulated education and care setting, HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting is generally the required qualification because it covers child-specific emergency response skills. HLTAID011 alone may not meet childcare first aid requirements.

Does HLTAID012 Include Asthma and Anaphylaxis Training?

Yes. The course includes the recognition and management of asthma attacks and severe allergic reactions, including the use of adrenaline auto-injectors and other emergency response procedures relevant to childcare environments.

How Long Is HLTAID012 Valid, and How Often Should it Be Renewed?

The HLTAID012 Statement of Attainment should be renewed every 3 years. However, the CPR component (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is recommended to be refreshed every 12 months in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council guidance.

Does This Course Include HLTAID011 and HLTAID009?

Yes. CPR First Aid’s HLTAID012 course includes HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID012.

What Practical Skills Are Assessed in the HLTAID012 Course?

Participants complete practical assessments including adult and infant CPR, using an AED training device, responding to simulated emergencies, and completing first aid scenarios that reflect real education and care environments.

What if my HLTAID012 certificate has already expired?

This Express Refresher is only for educators with a current, active HLTAID012 certificate. If yours has lapsed, book the Regular HLTAID012 course instead.

What should I bring to class?

Bring photo ID and your USI (Unique Student Identifier). If you haven’t registered for a USI yet, you can do so for free before your course.

Where can I do this course?

This course runs at over 100 venues across Victoria, NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Use the location field above to find a class near you.

How much does this course cost?

A specific starting price, consistent with the fix recommended in Section C.

Can I reschedule if something comes up?
