Which First Aid Course Do I Need?

The right course is largely dependent on a person’s needs. When people think about “first aid courses”, they usually associate it with physical first aid such as injuries or body illnesses. For this, courses like HLTAID011 and HLTAID012 are a good fit.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard first aid qualification required for most Australian workplaces. It is a comprehensive course that builds a strong first aid foundation. If you work in a childcare, early learning, or education and care environment, you may require HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting.

The other side of the coin is mental health first aid. While HLTAID012 caters to the physical side, Adult Mental Health Awareness & Support Training Course – Practitioner (Level 2) is meant for the mental side. This course builds on the foundations built by the Level 1 course. It improves upon the mental health response skills for individuals who have a greater responsibility in and around the workplace, especially those working in high-pressure environments.

How Often Do I Need to Renew the Adult Mental Health Awareness & Support Training Course – Practitioner (Level 2)?

This course is not a nationally recognised course. As such, there is no set duration for renewal. However, participants can retake the course whenever they feel like refreshing their knowledge.

What Additional Topics and Skills Are Included in This Course?

The Level 2 Practitioner Adult Mental Health Awareness course improves on mental health response knowledge and skills. The topics covered include:

  • Mental health and workplace responsibilities
  • Stress vs. burnout
  • Advanced understanding of mental health conditions
  • Recognising high-risk behavioural indicators
  • Conducting effective mental health conversations
  • Crisis management and response
  • Long-term support strategies
  • Reducing stigma and promoting safe workplace cultures
Is There a Practical Component to This Course?

No. This self-paced course is done entirely online. Upon enrolment, learners are sent access to the online portal where the course is accessed.

Do I Need to Take the Level 1 Foundations Course Before Taking the Level 2 Practitioner Course?

No. Completing the Level 2 Practitioner course awards Adult Mental Health Awareness & Support Training Course – Foundations (Level 1) and Adult Mental Health Awareness & Support Training Course – Practitioner (Level 2) certificates of completion.

Is there an assessment, and what happens if I don’t pass?

There’s a short assessment at the end of the modules. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can review the material and try again.

Can I access the course on my phone?

Yes — the course works on any device with an internet connection, including phones and tablets.

How soon can I start Level 3 after finishing Level 2?

As soon as you’re ready — there’s no mandatory waiting period between levels.

Do I get ongoing access to the course materials?

You’ll have access to the course materials for a set period after enrolling — check your confirmation email for exact access details.

Is this course suitable for someone without a leadership or HR role?

Yes — while it’s especially useful for people in leadership or coordination roles, anyone wanting more advanced mental health support skills can take this course.

Yes. We can arrange group enrolment for teams and organisations — contact us for details.
