Practical Assessment –
Skills must be demonstrated working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry validated scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge.
Please let us know if you have any medical conditions or special needs that may prevent you from getting on the floor. It is a requirement that CPR be performed for at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
Simulated assessment environments must simulate the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.
Assessment Resources must include –
- Adult and infant resuscitation manikins in line with ARC Guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures.
- AED training device
- Workplace injury, trauma and/or illness record, or other appropriate workplace incident report form.

FAQ
First Aid — Full Length — common questions
Which First Aid Course Do I Need?
The right course depends on your workplace, industry, or personal requirements. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard first aid qualification required for most Australian workplaces. If you work in a childcare, early learning, or education and care environment, you may require HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting. Some higher-risk industries may require advanced first aid qualifications.
How Often Do I Need to Renew HLTAID011?
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualification should be renewed every 3 years. The CPR component included within the course, HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) to be refreshed annually.
What Is the Difference Between HLTAID009, HLTAID010 and HLTAID011?
HLTAID009 focuses specifically on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). HLTAID010 covers basic emergency life support skills, while HLTAID011 provides a broader workplace first aid qualification that includes CPR, emergency response procedures, injury management, and treatment of common medical emergencies.
What Does HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Include?
This course includes HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and covers practical first aid skills including CPR for adults and infants, AED use, management of unconscious casualties, bleeding and wound care, burns, fractures, asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, strokes, shock, and emergency incident reporting.
Do I Need Previous Experience to Complete a First Aid Course?
No. There are no previous first aid qualifications or medical experience required to enrol. Students must generally be at least 14 years old, have sufficient English language skills to complete training and assessments, and be physically capable of completing the practical CPR assessment requirements.
Why choose the Full Length course over Express or Regular?
The Full Length course covers all theory in class on the day, so there’s nothing to complete beforehand — ideal if you’d rather not study online first, or if you have no prior first aid training and want the most thorough option.
What should I bring to class?
Bring photo ID and your USI (Unique Student Identifier). If you haven’t registered for a USI yet, you can do so for free before your course.
